[Very quickly after their return to the mansion and their opulent lifestyle of endless banquets, endless showers, and endless amenities, Adam starts losing track of the days again--voluntarily, this time. The closets are great for providing endless alcohol service, too.
One or two drinking binges in the safety of his own room can't completely erase his memories of the zombies, though, and eventually Isaac gets a call from without warning. Adam would have texted, but not all of the whiskey is out of his system yet and his many spelling errors convinces him it's a bad choice.]
I'm just checking that you didn't die.
[There's a pause as he readies himself to hang up. He's forgotten something.]
Oh. It's... your suicide case calling. In case you don't recognize my voice.
[ The return to the mansion had been a hectic one, after getting bitten by a zombie and having to have his arm hacked off - god the memories are still so fresh in his mind, he can't help but rub his arm every time he thinks about it... it had just been blood and gore and bone. Isaac almost did die, Allison stayed by his side the entire time trying to help.
The loss of Scott, the murder of Jackson? It all weighed down Isaac in a horrific way.
When he woke up in her bed it wasn't pleasant, his body hadn't started healing because it had been fighting off infections both of a zombie nature and others due to the poor conditions of the amputation. Luckily, Castiel was kind enough to help him out - he really owed the angel a lot.
The event wore them all down, it was all sharp edges and the feeling of solemnity; everyone was wary, jumpy even. When his communicator goes off, he expects it to be Allison, or Derek - maybe Scott even. But it's not - it's Adam. And he didn't need the explanation - he recognized the voice. ]
Hey. I didn't. [ Die. ] I guess you didn't either. [ He'll refrain from horrific details of amputation for now, instead settling on something a bit less gruesome. ] Suicide case, huh?
[ He owes Adam a lot too, they'd helped each other out, Adam gave him the slap he needed to get it together when things were tough. ] Y'know we should hang out sometime - or uh, something.
[Not dead, then. He can check this one off his mental list of people who might be digesting in a zombie's stomach.]
... Not this time. [There's a pause. The alcohol leaves him feeling warm, and he sounds almost amused when he speaks again.] Your words, not mine.
["Murderer" might be more apt, but Adam gets the feeling Isaac sees their first meeting a different way. Though considering they'd met while he'd been trying to get rid of his Mirror and again when ravenous monsters had been ready to kill everybody, he isn't sure how he should the take the offer to "hang out." Or something.]
What, two near-death experiences weren't enough for you?
[ It's a relief to know that Adam is okay, it's even more rewarding to notice that Adam had cared enough to check up on Isaac.
Friendship is a go. ]
Good. [ And the next comment startles a laugh out of him. ] Well, I'm kinda a jerk then, aren't I? [ There's no bite to his words, he's glad to see the other boy at least not trying to kill himself. That was definitely a nice change. ]
[ There's a grin in his voice when he speaks up again. ]
Well, considering I was thinking we could play video games or something... And you couldn't kill me if you tried. I think two was enough. [ He sounds far too sure of this. ] If a bunch of murderous mirrors and a bunch of undead cannibals couldn't, I think I'm doing pretty good. Besides, we could use a break.
[Isaac's welcome to think of himself as a hero or an asshole, or anything in between--that's his business, and Adam can't be bothered to worry about what Isaac thinks of him. At the very least, the guy seems to care about people, at least enough to get in Adam's way and (in Isaac's mind) protect him from himself. That means something when everything else has gone topsy turvy.
Playing video games is the last thing he expects to hear, however. The suggestion gives him pause.
He hadn't intended to imply he was the threat, so much as Wonderland itself, but the fact remains that he doesn't bring anything good in his wake and testing the limits of their freedom feels like begging the place to whip up another shit storm. If not for him stopping to wait on Adam's reply, Adam would have thought Isaac had made a joke.]
That's what you do around here? Crap happens, and you relax with video games?
[It's not so much an accusation as sheer disbelief at work.]
[ The incredulity in Isaac's voice is obvious. Was Adam really judging him for video games? C'mon man, don't be that guy. Video games, comics and movies are great. ] I'm a teenager, what else am I supposed to do?
[ It's not like getting drunk is really a thing he can do as far as he's aware. And drugs just do not sound like it's worth risking some weird wolf reaction. Brooding is also a thing he spends time doing, but it's kind of hard when he's worried about Allison. Most of his time recently has been spent on her couch playing Legend Of Zelda with the occasional nap. ] We have a game room and everything - I mean it's Stiles' but he'd let us use it.
[ Thinking about it now, he could really use a break. ] I was gonna ask if he minded if Allison and I hung out there anyway. You could definitely join us - just uh - no zombie games. Maybe Mario Kart, she really likes that. [ That last part seems to be more musing to himself. ]
[He's judging Isaac for a lot more than that. But he's not blind to how far off the reservation he's wandered; if Isaac's coping, he's worlds ahead of Adam. He can't fault anyone for that.]
I don't know any of those people.
[Which is his way of kindly declining. Sober up and leave his room for the first time in days? Act like a normal person? Hell no, he's living the life inside these blood-smeared walls. Paradise on Earth. Or Wonderland. Whatever.
Actually, he doesn't know Isaac, either, which begs the question of why he's being asked on a threeway date. They must be desperate for someone who knows their way around multiplayer mode. That, or this guy really doesn't know the difference between good and bad company.]
